Notice of intent to make a determination

Pelican Lake North Sewage Lagoon Expansion and Upgrades - Public Comments Invited

December 2, 2022 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Pelican Lake North Sewage Lagoon Expansion and Upgrades, located on Chitek Lake IR 191, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

The project located in NE-32-54-12-3M & NW-32-54-12-3M is for the expansion of the North Sewage Lagoon in Pelican Lake First Nation, SK. The work involves the construction of a new sewage lagoon treatment cell, a storage cell and conversion of the existing treatment cell to a storage cell. (Provides an additional storage volume of approximately 25,000 m³) adjacent to the existing North Lagoon Treatment Cell.

Activities include the following: 

Clearing and Grubbing;
Topsoil stripping;
Lagoon Access Road improvements;
Construction of a new sewage lagoon treatment cell;
Construction of a storage cell;
Conversion of the existing treatment cell to a storage cell;
Installation of Sanitary Forcemain; and
Topsoil and seed will placed onto disturbed areas.

Construction garbage will be collected and regularly removed from the work site to avoid attracting wildlife. Proper management and disposal of attractants such as garbage and petroleum products will reduce the possibility of wildlife-human conflicts. No hazardous materials will be generated as waste for this Project. Includes Perimeter Fencing (1000 linear meters), 600 mm diameter CSP Culvert (26.5 linear meters), and 150 mm diameter HDPE Sanitary Sewer Force main (150 linear meters).
