The Proposed Project

The authorites have proposed a project. This project includes the recapitalization of the main entry gates to Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot (CFAD) Rocky Point in Metchosin, British Columbia. Entry control is an important aspect of base operations as the first line of defence and mitigating risks associated with the physical security of the base. The Commissionaires buildings currently in use are at the end of their life and need to be replaced. Active Vehicle Barriers, a turnaround for large vehicles that have been denied entry, the addition of road features to impede the velocities of vehicles approaching the gate, remote controlled gates and security camera observations to the two side roads near the entrance also need to be addressed in this project.

Proposed work will include the reconfiguration of existing roadways, the addition of new roadways, provision of vehicle inspection areas, vehicle control features and denial barriers, safety and weather protection for personnel, construction of a new security building, demolition of existing entrance guardhouse, relocation of existing impacted utilities, and inclusion of parking.
