Public Comment Period on Intent to Make a Determination
Replace Various Fuel Storage Tanks, Aldershot, 14 Wing Greenwood, and Yarmouth Armoury, Nova Scotia

July 20, 2022 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing remove and replace various fuel storage tanks at DND facilities located at Aldershot, 14 Wing Greenwood and Yarmouth Armoury. Tank capacities range from 300 litres (L) to 35,000 L. Tank contents include diesel, heating oil, gasoline, aviation fuel, or waste oil. Work will also involve replacement of associated piping, pumps, instrumentation, electrical service, tank foundations, as well as civil site works in vicinity of the tanks. Tank replacement activities are anticipated to begin Fall 2022 and be carried out over a period of approximately two years.
