The Proposed Project

As part of a restoration project, the National Capital Commission (NCC) intends to restore a 19th century barn located at 200 Moodie Drive in Ottawa, Ontario. The project is needed to stabilize and preserve the barn.

The proposed project would take place on leased lands owned by the NCC.

The restoration work consists of strengthening structural beams and repairing the foundation. Metal L brackets would be installed to strengthen existing structural beams. The foundation would be repointed using material similar to the existing material in the foundation. To complete the foundation repairs, the soil surrounding the foundation would also be excavated at a depth of two feet by two feet from the foundation wall.

The construction area will be accessed with light duty machines and equipment. For safety reasons, all work areas will be fenced. The construction is set to begin fall 2022 and complete by winter 2022. Construction work will abide by all municipal by-laws including noise.

No trees will be impacted by the work. All excavation activities would be monitored by an NCC archaeologist.
