Colwood Gate Improvements – Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt

April 8, 2022 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project which aims to improve security at the CFB Esquimalt Colwood property. Work will include upgrades to the existing Wilfert Road guardhouse, parking area and turnaround, relocation of electrical poles, the addition of lighting and cameras throughout the Colwood property, including G Jetty, the construction of a sidewalk on Wilfert Road, repaving sections of Wilfert Road and construction of secondary fence surrounding the tank farm. Wedge barriers, lighting and cameras will also be installed at the Rosebank Gate.
