Lafarge Additional Barge Moorage in Victoria Harbour – PUBLIC COMMENTS INVITED

March 14, 2022 – Transport Canada must determine whether the proposed Lafarge Additional Moorage in Victoria Harbour, located in Victoria, B.C., is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Transport Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public [and may be posted online]. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project 

Lafarge is proposing to install three vertical steel pipe piles within the water lot to accommodate mooring of barges in Victoria, B.C. The Lafarge Victoria Terminal is located on the northern shoreline of the Upper Harbour in Victoria. The proposed project includes the installation of three 36-inch diameter vertical steel piles, and piles will be drilled by barge mounted equipment. Drill spoils will be surface loaded onto the barge for offsite disposal at an approved facility. There will be no land access to the water lot at this time. 

Construction of the piles is anticipated to require 8 weeks between December 1st, 2022, to February 15th, 2023.
