Notice of intent to make a determination

Sturgeon Lake First Nation Subdivision - Public Comments Invited

March 9, 2022 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Sturgeon Lake First Nation Subdivision, located on Sturgeon Lake IR 101A is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

 The Proposed Project

The project consists of a 55-lot subdivision and related supporting infrastructure on Sturgeon Lake IR 101A. The legal land descriptions include: SE 24-51-01-3, NE 13-51-01-3, SW 24-51-28-2, NW 13-51-28-2. See proposed civil drawings in documents area for more information.

Subdivision construction will include 150mm dia. treated water distribution mains with hydrants, 200mm dia. gravity sanitary sewer mains with access manholes, individual service connections to each lot, gravel surfaced local roads and driveways, drainage ditching and culverts, lot preparation, and general site grading. Subdivision construction with encompass approximately 20.0 ha of previously cultivated land. Supporting infrastructure includes a subdivision access road, gravity sewer connection to an existing network, a treated water supply main, and expansion of an existing treated water pumphouse to accommodate dedicated pumping/distribution equipment to the new subdivision.

Planning stages - Topographic site survey (already complete), boreholes for geotechnical investigation (already complete). Construction - Topsoil removal, rough grading of site, trench excavation for utility installations, backfill, granular material placement for roads, ditch excavation and shaping, and topsoil replacement. Operation - Housing construction and vehicular traffic.
