Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada must determine whether the proposed St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) Upgrade Project located at Agriculture and Agri-Food Lethbridge Research and Development Center lands near Lethbridge, Alberta is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public [and may be posted online].  For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

As part of their irrigation upgrade project, St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) near Lethbridge Alberta, proposes to install approximately 0.8 km of new water pipeline through Agriculture and Agri-Food Lethbridge Research and Development Center lands.  

The project includes the excavation and removal of a concrete liner associated within an existing irrigation canal, installing new a 20 cm PVC irrigation pipe and removing the existing access road which includes site restoration as required.
