The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project which involves the relocation of a 7.3 meter antenna from its current location at the Tunney's Pasture complex in Ottawa, Ontario to an existing concrete pad near building 84 at the Shirley's Bay complex at 3701 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario. The antenna will be dismantled and lifted by crane from the current concrete pad foundation to the transport truck. Associated components will be stored and transported in a shipping container. The concrete pad at the origin location (Tunney's Pasture) will be left in place and the communication cables will be de-energized, terminated, cut and left in place. No digging at the Tunney's Pasture location will be required. The Tunney's Pasture site will be remediated and redeveloped as per the Tunney's Pasture Master Plan as part of a separate project. Associated conduit from the antenna to building 84 will also be installed and some mechanical and electrical upgrades will be completed for buildings 39 and 84 at Shirley's Bay. There will also be modifications to the office/admin areas in building 39.
