The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project which involves the stabilization of two existing temporary bridging abutment sites adjacent to the Battle Bridge and MacDonald Bridge within the Range and Training Area at Garrison Wainwright. These sites are located near the Battle River, and are used during military training exercises. Military units build and remove temporary bridges using these abutments. Construction activities are planned for 2022 during the low-flow timeframe for the Battle River. Construction duration is estimated as 4 weeks per site.

Site preparation and construction activities include:

  • Equipment mobilization
  • Delineation of temporary work areas within existing disturbed areas adjacent to abutments
  • Watercourse isolation
  • Excavation of existing rip rap
  • Installation of temporary and permanent erosion and sediment control measures (including non-woven geotechnic fabric and rip rap)
  • Removal and disposal/storage of excavated materials
  • Equipment de-mobilization
