Base-Wide Tree Removal - Canadian Forces Base Kingston

September 20, 2021 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project which consists of removing dead, dying and dangerous trees across the base and trimming specified trees to remove all dead and dangerous limbs. Tree removal includes the removal of wood, stump grinding, removal of debris, and landscaping with topsoil and seed. Approximately 115 trees will be removed at various locations across Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Kingston, Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) and Fort Frontenac. An Archaeologist will be present for trees requiring removal and stump grinding at RMC and Fort Frontenac. A tree replacement program will be implemented subsequent to the tree removals.
