The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project which involves the re-alignment of Woods Trail between its bridge and North Creek Trail and decommissioning its two branch trails in the 17 Wing Detachment Dundurn's Range and Training Area. Brightwater creek runs through the training area. The creek passes by Woods Trail, and the embankment has begun to erode. The embankment deterioration has compromised the structural integrity of primary and secondary trails for personnel and vehicles' safety along the route. The estimated re-routed trail is 195 km in length and roughly 313 km of secondary trails to be decommissioned. Restoration of the creek embankment will be addressed as a separate project.
