Launch Ramp Reconstruction – Whiskey Jack Portage, MB - Fall 2021 – Public Comments Invited

June 23, 2021 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours Branch, must determine whether the proposed Launch Ramp Reconstruction – Whiskey Jack Portage, MB - Fall 2021 project located on Ross Island, MB is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.  To help inform this determination, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

Whiskey Jack Portage is located on Ross Island, MB approximately 50km Northwest of Norway House, MB and approximately 500km North of Winnipeg, MB.  The harbour is an active commercial fishing facility under the administration of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Small Craft Harbours Branch (SCH).

Small Craft Harbours Branch, (SCH) is proposing to reconstruct the launch ramp at Whiskey Jack Portage, MB.  The scope of work includes the demolition and removal of the existing pre-cast launch ramp pads and reinforced concrete slab, and the construction of a new launch ramp using pre-cast launch ramp pads. The work area at Whiskey Jack Portage is approximately 250 m2. The work will be done in open water conditions using shore-based equipment and is scheduled for Fall 2021.
