Public Comment Period on Intent to Make a Determination
Electrical Power Upgrade for Building 650 (B650) at Garrison Wainwright

June 10, 2020 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The purpose of the project is to increase the electrical capacity and to provide emergency back-up power for Building 650.

Project activities include:
· Replace the existing pad-mounted transformer
· Upgrade the electrical services installation (inside and outside building).
Upgrading includes:
o Demolishing and capping off existing duct bank and installing a new duct bank
o Installing UPS (300kVA at 20'x8')
o Installing Generator (750kW at 30'x10')

The Generator will include a fuel tank of size to suffice for 8-hours of continuous operation at full load.
