Decommissioning of Stanleigh Mine (Archived)

Description: Rio Algom Limited has submitted a proposal to decommission the Stanleigh Mine located in the Elliot Lake area in northern Ontario.

Decision of the Minister of the Environment: On August 8, 1997, following a review of public comments and the environmental assessment report, the Minister concluded that the project is unlikely to cause significant adverse environmental effects and referred the project back to the responsible authorities for appropriate next steps.

Federal Responsible Authorities: Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (lead) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada
