Mealy Mountain Radio Repeater Construction
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
Parks Canada is proposing to construct three new remote radio communication sites within the Akami-Uapishkᵁ-KakKasuak-Mealy Mountains National Park Reserve in southeastern Labrador. The new sites will improve emergency and operational communications in remote areas of the park. All three sites are located on mountaintops in the park's backcountry and are accessible only by helicopter. Each site will include a small, combined communication shelter and tower, anchored into the rock. The system will complement an existing site ("The Dome") located outside the park, bringing the total number of sites in the network to four. The new sites are: "Site A" on the eastern side of the park, "Door Knob" on the western side, and "Site C2" in the centre. This infrastructure is essential for ensuring safety and supporting park operations in this vast and remote landscape.
