Quatsino Lightstation - Diesel Fuel System Replacement
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
DFO and CCG are proposing to replace the diesel fuel system at the Cape Scott Lightstation. The lightstation is staffed by two lightkeepers 24/7 as per maritime safety requirements. Currently, the station is powered by diesel fuel powered generators, which supply electricity to the three residences, radio communication equipment, weather monitoring system, and the many other buildings and assets on station. The current diesel fuel tanks and associated piping are at their end of service and need to be replaced.
This proposed project involves the removal of four 9,465 L diesel fuel tanks and associated piping, which will have been drained. The project also involves the installation of four 9,465 L diesel fuel tanks and associated piping. The new infrastructure will be placed in the exact footprint of the previous infrastructure, and connected to existing generators on site.
Ground disturbance is not expected in the area, as all infrastructure is above-ground.
Helicopter slinging will be used to mobilize and demobilize equipment. Materials will be lifted to site by helicopter from Coal Harbour, BC.
