  • Ignoring the “giant orbs that oscillate generating energy fields” for the moment, the geology of the Revell batholith has never had anything to do with any “surface connection to liquid magma”. The Revell batholith is known to have formed about 2.7 BILLION years ago, by liquid magma intruding into Greenstone that was already in place since over another billion years earlier. That intrusion of liquid magma never reached the surface:  It occurred several kilometers BELOW THE SURFACE of the existing Greenstone, which itself was at the base of a shallow sea. If the intrusion of liquid magma had not stopped deep below surface, it simply would not have become granite. Greenstone on the other hand, forms by direct contact of liquid magma with seawater, solidifying as the well-known “pillow lava”, eventually ...

  • The question to be asked is, by putting a mine filled with radioactive waste (deep geological repository) not only contaminating our water but an eternal disruption between heaven and earth? Spiritually, the question is beyond scientific. Maybe this impact process will answer this... In terms of respecting indigenous appropriation we (myself or the archaeologists I worked with) always asked if the information was being shared freely. Elders like Emmaline Macpherson, Fred Pine and Alex Mathias all felt if we didn't share it then it would likely be lost. They are now all deceased and I am old old and feel it is important to communicate this information that was gathered by myself or those I worked, hunted, fished or picked berries with and knew socially from our community. Previously, 1973, an elder in the Cree community of Fort George, located at the mouth of La Grande River in Quebec at Ft George was asked about hydro dams. He had never seen a dam. The impatient ...

  • My concern is who will be transporting this waste.I currently live in Pass Lake close to Hwy #17 between Nipigon and Thunder Bay.The Trans Canada highway has become so dangerous that I avoid it at all times.I use Lakeshore Road to travel to Thunder Bay.Unfortunately I do have to use this highway for a short period to access the exit on Lakeshore Rd.Just about every week someone dies after colliding with a transport truck.I myself have had to pull over to the shoulder to avoid being hit head on while these wreckless drivers pass each other blindly on the stretch of Hwy #11/17 between Thunder bay and Dryden. Many of these truck drivers have obtained their licences from corrupt training facilities in southern Ontario and are willing to risk the safety of others to reach their destination sooner. The people in the passenger vehicle always loses and usually the truck driver walks away. These transport drivers know that they will survive so they take risks.Almost all are from southeast Asia ...

  • This submission is informed by extensive comments and feedback collected from community members and local area residents living in the closest proximity to the proposed Deep Geological Repository (DGR) site. These perspectives were gathered during a series of public information sessions organized by Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture, hosted by the Local Services Board of Melgund and community members from April 20-24, 2026.  These engagement efforts were made possible through support from the IAAC Participant Funding Program, ensuring that the specific concerns of the unorganized communities and local peoples living closest to the site—often overlooked in regional planning—are directly integrated into the federal impact assessment process. Context and Infrastructure Vulnerability This submission provides a detailed assessment of the Draft Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines (DTISG) as they pertain to communities and local peoples in ...

  • The authors, Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture, make the dubious claim that their “submission is submitted by and on behalf of residents in Melgund Township and local peoples”. However, the IAAC and its Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines (TISG) should be made aware that Melgund Township never held any sort of vote on NWMO’s proposed DGR project at the Revell site, and that therefore any claim by Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture of a “submission is submitted by and on behalf of residents in Melgund Township and local peoples” must be seen as a bogus attempt at achieving a nonexistent public representation. As a matter of fact, a resident of Dyment (a hamlet in Melgund Township) who is a steadfast opponent of the DGR project, proclaimed in no uncertain terms that “most of the people here are for it”

  • The Draft Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines (TISG) currently utilize discretionary language in Line 1276, stating that the Proponent “should” work with identified communities and local peoples. This framing is insufficient to ensure methodological consistency, accountability, and meaningful participation under Section 11 of the Impact Assessment Act (2019), particularly for communities in closest proximity to the proposed Revell site. This submission is submitted by and on behalf of residents in Melgund Township and local peoples residing in the immediate vicinity of the proposed Deep Geological Repository (DGR) site at Revell. • The following are questions and some thoughts I have regarding the proposed DGR? Once emplaced is this waste retrievable? The examples of Asse II and WIPP indicate significant problems with the burial of underground radioactive waste. The Onkalo DGR has a ramp to retrieve waste if something does go wrong however the Revel DGR is using a shaft which can be lost by shifting ground, mechanical failure, human sabotage or terrorism capture. How will mining out caverns in a deep nuclear repository affect the stability of the surrounding rock (pluton or batholyth)? Initially the rock would move into the mined out areas then with the heat from the emplaced radioactive used fuel containers, it would move out for approximately 50,000 years (AECL). This in-out movement would introduce fracturing and escape routes for radiation that didn't exist before mining. Pressures introduced would produce rock bursts which would affect the barriers (bentonite clay, copper spraying) ...

  • I wish to comment to the Impact Agency of Canada regarding the requirements of an Impact Statement for the proposed Deep Geological Repository for all of Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel. There are numerous areas which in my opinion require a great deal more information before a sense of security in this project can be imparted.  In this comment I will focus on the somewhat unclear area of transportation. The Scope of Project needs to include all aspects of transporting the waste, from its existing locations all the way to the DGR site, whether the access roads are under provincial, territorial or federal jurisdiction. It seems contradictory that the whole project is designated for a full federal impact assessment because of the significant adverse federal effects, and yet the waste transportation can be relegated to compliance with road safety rules in provincial ministries. Given that 3 high level nuclear waste laden trucks will be on our roads every day for 50 years, ...

  • Thank you NWMO for enabling this forum where civil society can comment on the essential task that you have taken on: namely, to ensure the safe disposal of the radioactive waste from the nuclear reactors which supply electricity for the populations of Eastern Canada. I am moved to contribute to this forum because my experience of working in and around the nuclear industry brought me to see how atomic particles are social and sentient, more than we have so far cared or dared to consider. This then flags up the concept of the Atomic World being as a dimension of Life in itself: a sub-continent, as-it-were, in which the particle population are as the First Nations inhabitants of this dimension downstairs and inside of where and who we are. I came to see this larger picture of the Atomic realm while working ...

The summary of issues has included many of the concerns that we have previously shared with by email, Feb 2, 2026 in response to your call for public comment. We applaud that you have included the challenge of transportation among the issues you have asked the NWMO to address. The summary is silent on the need for an independent public health assessment of this important project. To refresh our concern on this matter, I will repeat, below, what we have previously shared. In addition, we continue to be concerned as to how the amount of waste that will be stored at this facility will be capped at the level that is proposed. Given the accelerating expansion of the nuclear ...

  • The April 10 draft package makes an important correction to NWMO’s earlier effort to treat off-site transportation as external to the project. The draft integrated tailored impact statement guidelines now require that “transportation of both nuclear and non-nuclear materials outside of the project site” be included among the project components and activities considered in the Impact Statement, and they state that project-related transportation has the potential to result in adverse effects within areas of federal jurisdiction. That change should be retained in the final guidelines. What the package does not yet do is say clearly enough what follows from that change.
