  • The main problem I see with this development is that it is basically almost right in the town. The holes and large hills from the mine pits ,  are within feet of the residential homes, a school and nursing home.  I believe the noise pollution will be a problem for the neighbourhood. The thumping of such pumps will not be healthy for the community. Is there an environmental report, social report? No one in town was mailed any such report. How will it affect the wildlife in the area? Is there a chance of increase radon or other chemicals? Or people living in such close proximity to large hydroelectric wattage is there any risk of increase health or cancer for them. Will it affect underground water? What if it floods?   I think as a Marmora  citizen not enough study and research has put into this project. And everyone in town should be mailed a copy of the research and risk ...

  • Though by superficial initial impression this project seems to benefit marmora and the country, it is clear that the only certainties surrounding it are the extensive environmental damage and destruction it will cause to a historic man made local attraction, surrounding forests, marshes and waterways. It risks disrupting and displacing 176 different species, 28 of which are identified as at risk. There are only ambiguous grandiose promises of some sort of country wide net gain when locally, the certainties include: “carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and other GHG will also be released to the atmosphere during all phases of the Project” (Pg. 100). During the first 5 years “direct and indirect GHG emissions for construction have been estimated at 39,871 tCO2e per year” (Pg. 101).   • Although the Marmora Clean Energy Hub Project is not situated within the Crowe Valley Conservation Authroity Watershed, the CVCA must consider the potential impact upon its local watercourses and waterbodies.  At the time of this submission the CVCA has been informed the dewatering of the mine site may result in significant discharge into the Crowe River.  As per Ontario Regulation 159/06 the CVCA has concerns the discharge may alter the dynanmics of the Crowe River from the point of discharge downstream to where the Crowe River empties into the Trent River system.  Not only is there possibly a water quantity issue the CVCA is cognizant the water temperature could be affected and water from a souce outside of the CVCA watershed may have an impact on flora and fauna in the Crowe River.  The dewatering process may have an impact on CVCA's dam operations and decisions as staff manage the lower reach of the Crowe River.  This concern would be ...

It would help boost our economy in our small town which is also badly needed and supply jobs to us and our surrounding areas.   • I think that the project would be good for the environment, and also the economics of our town.  It would also be good for education and employment opportunities.  This is an excellent use of this site.  Marmora is situated well, halfway between Toronto and Ottawa, and this project would help to put a wonderful small town on the map.  This would also increase tourism in the area.

  • I believe this will be a great project to come to Marmora. There will be jobs available to many people through out the building of the project and once in completion. I have heard many opinions that they will only be jobs that require certain degrees and qualifications and will not be applicable to persons in or community, but even if that were so there will be a need for entry level jobs such as cleaners, security guards and so on like any large scale industrial location. Similar to Drain Bros. on Highway seven between Marmora and Havelock or many of the mines still in operation around here such as Iko, Blue Mountain and Unimin, which may I mention all three of those mines have MANY Marmora residents working at all three of these mines currently, as they are one of the very very few decent paying jobs around here that have many entry level positions. The revenue the town will receive from people shopping, buying lunch or dinner while workers are here or simply families ...
