Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On April 21, 2011, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because the Parks Canada Agency was the proponent for the project.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

Terra Nova National Park of Canada plans to make modifications to Cobblers Day Use Area. The work involved includes: - Excavated and replace 30m, 500mm diameter drainage culvert - Replace and realign existing fence (approx100m) - Brushing around parking lot and day use area - Topsoil dressing and sod placement around area of culvert installation - Re-position parking lot bollards - Brushing and maintenance on existing trail to beach - Paint kitchen shelters and pit privies - Replace shingles on kitchen shelter This work is scheduled to take place in the spring/summer of 2011.

Final Decision

A decision was taken on May 7, 2011 and was that the authority may exercise any power or perform any duty or function with respect to the project because, after taking into consideration the screening report and taking into account the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures, the authority is of the opinion that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
