I attended the cruise ship symposium recently and was impressed with the presenter from Cruise NL. She said that niche cruise ships and their passengers are happy enough to take Zodiac boats to shore and that cruise ships with less than 250 passengers would be an ideal fit for the existing facilities in the port of Botwood. She was also not aware of the EVREC proposal with 530+ industrial wind turbines and the associated ammonia storage and unloading facilities proposed. She indicated that such an industrial facility would make Botwood a rather undesirable port of call for cruise ship destinations. Considering the symposium was arranged by exploits marine procurement, it was shocking to learn they have not disclosed such a development while claiming to attempt to draw in cruise ship passengers.
After careful consideration of all the facts and situation I have come to the following conclusion. Exploits marine procurement being a branch of marine contractors who are in partnership with EVREC to develop the proposed "green hydrogen" development without local support or investors, are clearly attempting to gain access to federal funding under the premise of attracting cruise ships in order to develop the port for the requirements for hydrogen and ammonia tankers as required by EVREC. Due to EVREC not having collected any sizable investors (less than 10 million registered on sedarplus.ca since 2023 for their parent company Abraxas, mostly earmarked for their Maldives project) are attempting to gain access to federal funding for port modifications. Essentially they are attempting to gain access to a P3 investment model where public funds pay for private companies to profit.
Please do thorough due diligence and reject this proposal as it is wholly unnecessary to attract specialty destination cruise ships with less than 250 passengers. The Town of Botwood does not have any transportation, washroom facilities, restaurants, or even community attractions to justify modifying the port to such a large scale. Again, this is an attempt by a privately owned company with Liberal inside connections, to have taxpayers invest in a development required for a private business to avoid paying for their required upgrades.
