Wood Buffalo National Park Highway 5 rehabilitation

Maintenance and road surface rehabilitation is required to restore drainage infrastructure, improve rideability and overall road safety from km 190.5 to km 211.1 on Highway 5 in Wood Buffalo National Park. The work will utilize heavy machinery along the existing highway footprint to widen the grade of the road by backfilling the side slope, add base course and sub-base course in select locations and scarify, regrade, compact and apply chipseal to the road surface. The work will also involve culvert replacements at 6 locations to address structural failures, as well as culvert maintenance at 5 locations to clean out sediment and debris. Construction will take place from June to August 2026 and will utilize existing aggregate pits along highway 5. Traffic control measures will be put in place to maintain circulation and assure public safety.
