Environmental Benefits of Digital Administrative Processes

As part of the public participation process, I would like to highlight the importance of considering administrative and procedural environmental impacts alongside the physical impacts of this project.

From an environmental perspective, the increased use of digital and remote administrative processes can significantly reduce indirect environmental impacts, such as paper consumption, postal logistics, and travel-related emissions. Encouraging online document submission, digital record management, and remote access to administrative services can contribute to lower carbon footprints while improving efficiency and accessibility for individuals and businesses.

Based on experience within independent digital administrative services in Canada, including work related to document processing and remote submissions, digital-first approaches have proven effective in reducing unnecessary physical documentation and in-person administrative visits.

Integrating or supporting these types of digital workflows within project-related administrative processes could help align development initiatives with Canada’s broader sustainability and environmental objectives.

I encourage the Agency to continue promoting environmentally responsible administrative practices as part of the overall assessment and mitigation framework for this project.
