I have been involved with this project since 2009 and have seen the project go from a mineral occurence to advanced economic study. While exploration is campaign based and can't offer the same consistent employment and job opportunities as a mine, FPX have always prioritized the community and making opportunities available during exploration and other field work supporting advanced economic studies. Working with FPX and the project management team, they definitely care about the local communities and stake holders and are committed to the project and responsible development including business opportunities for local based businesses.
Specific to this deposit type - there is a lot of upside compared to other nickel mining projects that traditionally mine nickel sulphides or nickel laterite. The nature of the Project's ore includes the mineral awaruite, which is a naturally occuring alloy and not a sulphide. In fact the sulphur content of the host rocks is very very low and is unique to this type of deposit. This means that the host rocks are generally benign with respect to acid rock drainage and metal leaching. Also noteworthy is that the project has at least three other potential targets that could extend mine life, and this could truly be a multi-generational project that could have long term positive impacts for the local communities that would include jobs at the minesite, spin-off business opportunities, and other revenue streams available on a long term basis.- Présenté par
