Nuclear Just Doesn’t Make Sense and is Morally Questionable

I am very concerned with Ontario's seeming determination to proceed with a new nuclear project at Wesleyville.  It seems clear that this kind of mega-project is outdated.  From a cost perspective, an individual safety perspective and a national security perspective, it is all wrong.

Both IESO and Lazard are clear that sustainable sources of energy are much more cost effective.  One says sustainable sources will be 30% cheaper, the other says  50% cheaper.  Individuals in Port Hope whose properties are still being remediated because of nuclear waste from refining done decades ago continue to suffer from past nuclear mistakes.   Though there have no doubt been improvements since those days, to create more waste that future generations will have to deal with in conditions we cannot foresee seems profoundly immoral.  On top of everything else, to depend on unreliable partners (right now the U.S., but who knows who it will be down the road) is shortsighted in the extreme.

Ontario should be responsible enough to see what most of the world is seeing now.  We have responsibility for ourselves and for future generations of Ontarians.  For a prosperous and livable future, bring on the wind, solar, and geothermal sources of energy.
