To whom it may concern,
I wholly agree with the comments made by the Ontario Clean Air Alliance and others. New nuclear does not make sense in Ontario which already has a high dependence on inflexible, centralized, out-of-market generation. The recent procurement run by IESO confirms the overwhelming global evidence that renewables and battery energy storage are the lowest cost and fastest-to-deploy supply alternatives. The additional advantage of public, competitive procurements is that the taxpayer/ratepayer is not stuck footing the bill if/when the business case for nuclear collapses. Most of the present politicians probably don't remember that Ontarians are still on the hook for over $13B of debt for the current fleet of reactors. The world is changing at an astronomical rate and it is folly to predict the cost of energy or supply alternatives 10 or 15 years in the future. See Hinkley Point C in the UK for details. In the name of fiscal sanity I implore you to reject this fantastical waste of money.
Regards,
Hugo
