Grave concern with new energy plans

To whomever it may concern:

As a resident of Ontario, I am deeply concerned about the plans to build a devastatingly expensive new nuclear facility in Port Hope. It is appalling that IAAC does not plan to carry out an independent investigation into cheaper and more sustainable electricity options simply because a corporation with a vested interest tells it there are not other options.

Here are the facts:

- renewable energy like wind and solar is significantly cheaper. Creating infrastructure for renewables-produced electricity is more sustainable and a much better long-term investment in energy and energy independence. In fact, IESO just recently announced that the rate at which it is procuring wind and solar power is 30% cheaper than OPG's current announced price.

- renewable-generated electricity prokects create more jobs and have a smaller environmental footprint than sprwaling new nuclear facilties which take forever to build and become properly operational

- wind, solar and geothermal energy is booming worldwide - why is Canada falling behind?

I refuse to pay skyrocketing electricity prices just to line the pockets of a corporation. I demand that the government do its job in carrying out due dilligence and acting in the best long-term interest of its citizens and environment by investing in renewables and rejecting reckless nuclear projects like the one at Port Hope.
