Investigation urgently required into contamination of water wells

The North Chatham-Kent Municipality continues to suffer serious area wide water well interferences caused by underlying Kettle Point Black Shale particles known to contain heavy metals such as lead and cadmium enter the drinking water supply of the rural population in North Chatham-Kent

The investigation by the Ontario Ministry of Environment has failed on many fronts to be considered adequate as the Ontario government has not collected or analyzed any of the particulate for long term or acute health effects- no bioavailability studies to date have been conducted nor a causation mechanism addressed to explain the observed Black shale particles entering water wells

Without Federal assistance this population of rural families will be exposed to heavy metals either chronic or acute

Please advise if the Federal Government can investigate and in what time frame

Thank you
