I am writing this comment in direct opposition to the 'Center Village Renewables Integration and Grid Security Project'.

This is a step in the wrong direction for New Brunswick. By installing a fossil fuel burning plant we are locking New Brunswick into an 8% increase in our Greenhouse emissions for the next 25 years. Also this is a US company and given the volatility of the American administration, do we really want to be relying on an American owned facility supplied by American fracked fossil gas?

This is just the tip of the problems this project will cause. The Chignecto Isthmus is an environmentally sensitive and vital wildlife corridor. Terrestrial species like the endangered Nova Scotia mainland Moose use the Isthmus for migration. Sea trout travel up the Tantramar river into Harpers Brook which this project will be dumping it’s waste water into, which will be highly concentrated minerals and chemicals that will eventually spill into the Bay of Fundy making this a transborder issue. The smog plume produced by this facility will contaminate the air quality and will prove fatal to migrating birds that rely on the Isthmus.

This will affect the air, water and hunting grounds available to the local Amlamgog Indigenous peoples, with whom we have yet to see receive direct consultation by Riggs/ProEnergy.

The Federal Government of Canada has acknowledged the ecological importance of the Chignecto Isthmus and invested substantially in the conservation of water and habitat.

NB power has other viable options as many other comments have stated. We need a full IAAC investigation of the negative impacts this project will have on the Isthmus biodiversity as ProEnergy and NB Power are trying desperately to avoid, and still refuse to acknowledge the Isthmus.
