Comprehensive Impact Assessment required for gas plant project in vulnerable Chignecto Isthmus

I am writing as a resident of Tantramar to request that a comprehensive impact assessment be required for the proposed Centre Village Renewables Integration and Grid Security Project.

With respect to federal criteria, other comments have already drawn attention to the strong risk of adverse effects on migratory birds, for whom this area is of crucial importance. The proposal leaves unanswered many troubling questions concerning the effect on wetlands and streams, with significant risk to fish. Given the project's location within the Chignecto Isthmus, a comprehensive impact assessment would also need to examine the risks to wetlands and watercourses shared across the interprovincial border of NB & NS.

I also want to register my concern at the lack of transparency and genuine consultation for this project, including not notifying this region's elected representatives, our MLA and the mayor of Tantramar, early on in the process.

I am opposed to this project for additional reasons beyond the federal remit, not least of which is proposing a gas plant in the middle of a region with increasing fire risk. A comprehensive impact assessment must be undertaken.
