Transportation Concern

I have strong reservations about the safety of the plan to bury nuclear waste in northern Ontario and its possibly catastrophic impacts on people, water supplies, and the natural environment. Equally or even more concerning to me is the transportation of the waste from its origin sites in the south to its destination.  I have major doubts that the containment systems can guarantee that there will be no radiation leaks in transit.  In addition, highway accidents are frequent, and communities do not have the experience or the resources to contain a radioactive spill if one of the transport vehicles is involved in a collision.  While I am still not convinced that a willing host has been found at the destination, I am absolutely certain that I am unwilling to host these materials in my region in transit. Every Ontarian has the right to safety and security, and my community on Highway 11 has not been consulted.  I choose not to live near a nuclear facility, and I strongly object to any plan to move the nuclear waste materials from their site of origin.
