If my father were here he would have submitted a scientific rebuttal to this sham of a 'consultation'. He passed in 1999 but was already attending meetings and protesting the lack of sound science to support burying toxic waste in the Canadian Shield. The Canadian Shield! To those in power, the planet is theirs to plunder or desecrate. The planet does not belong just to humans. And the only humans who have real ties to the land are indigenous. Here in Treaty 3 there has been no meaningful discussion, just marketing, typical greasy palms. Dumping toxic waste here, ripping open and plundering the earth up north after the usual 'consultation'.
Who speaks for the water poisoned forever with mercury? For the trees in a land already threatened by clear cutting and now devastated by wildfires?
We are in a time of turmoil in the western world. Our allies have become unstable. It is not the time to be burying this waste when war could break out.
And there has been no official mention of the transportation issues. Overloading underserviced highways with radioactive ☢️ materials hauled here from all directions.
You may not have asked me but I say no, as an indigenous woman, mother and grandmother I say no to this plan.
