As a resident of Melgund Township, I feel that I want to speak up. I live 10 km from the proposed DGR at Borup’s Corners and it saddens me to have heard of the payments that took place with the WLON, which is approximately 25km west . What is good for one should be good for all. We had no payments in Melgund Township for the local residents closest to the proposed site. No one came to my door and offered me anything. There is a Property Value Protection possibility. Only good if I choose to sell out and move. No real benefit . I want to stay in my home and in my community where I am an active resident. There will definitely be an impact on my community. When blasting the new site, do you think we will feel the impact? Will our wells survive the shock? If they don’t, is NWMO going to have a new well dug for me to the tune of $15,000.00 . NWMO needs to offer out residents something in return. We have an aging population. Be fair. What are you going to offer us? Do we get a $140,000.00 gift too? Good for WLON. who stood up for their community. We never got to vote for or against. We never got asked. Yes, NWMO donated to the Local Services Board to update Community Infastructure but nothing to the residents. Personally, we are at the scene of the crash. More traffic deteriorating the highway that runs past my door. An 800 man camp is purposed a few miles away. This will have a definate impact on my community. Again, we are 10km from the proposed site. Melgund residents stand up and say your piece. What is good for one is good for all. Those within the circle of the proposed site on one side of the highway 17 could be bought out. Us on the other side of the highway get told to “Have a nice day”. Totally unfair. I don’t think NWMO even knows how many people live in Melgund Township / Dyment / Borup’s Corners. I don’t think they want to know. We are just a small community. NWMO step up to the plate. Come and talk to the residents individually. It’s time.
