Nuclear Power is an Absolute Necessity

As countries, including Canada, continue to fall short of climate goals, it becomes more and more clear that the expansion of nuclear power generation is absolutely imperative. Nuclear power is the only way to generate carbon-free energy at the scale required to meet the modern age's energy demands. Projects like the DGR allow Canada to further develop our nuclear power generation infrastructure and have control over the full nuclear fuel cycle. This is necessary to instill confidence that we can expand nuclear power generation through further infrastructure developments. We will never meet our climate targets nor make meaningful progress and limiting climate change without pursuing projects like this.
I see much concern in the comments regarding the lack of assessment related to the transportation of waste to the DGR. Thousands of radioactive packages are already delivered on Canadian roads in a safe manner under the standards of the CNSC. As far as I can tell there has never been a spill issue related to one of these deliveries within Canada. These packages are designed to withstand the conditions of an accident so even in worst case situations the package should be protected. There has always been misinformation and a lack of understanding regarding anything nuclear power related due to the past fear-mongering around the technology. I believe the best way to comabt this is by providing transparency and accurate information. Even if the transportation of waste falls outside the scope of the impact assessment, it appears based on these comments it would be beneficial to at least include further information regarding the transportation logistics as it is related to the project.
