To ensure the integrity of the impact assessment for a project of this magnitude and duration, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) and the Government of Canada must immediately extend the review timeframe and dramatically enhance opportunities for meaningful public consultation.

A 30-day window is fundamentally incompatible with a 160-year, multi-billion-dollar project, as it denies communities the time necessary to move beyond "promotional narratives" and conduct rigorous, independent verifications of the proponent’s claims.

Meaningful engagement is currently hindered by significant "transparency gaps," including the confidentiality of key agreements and the admitted lack of verified socio-economic and Indigenous data.

Furthermore, the current process risks "disenfranchising" immediate neighbors in unorganized territories, who lack the municipal infrastructure and technical resources to interpret thousands of pages of complex nuclear documentation in such a short period.

Extending the timeline and providing independent technical support for affected local and regional communities, the Government of Canada should ensure that "informed consent" is based on a comprehensive regional understanding rather than administrative efficiency or industry-led timelines.
