Prioritize Land

The proposed mine poses significant risks to the environment, culture, and society. While the project promises profitable mining, it relies heavily on potentially jeopardizing both human health and ecosystem balance.

The long-term consequences of this mine extend far beyond its operational lifespan. It threatens critical fish spawning grounds and caribou migration routes, disrupting vital food sources for generations to come. The environmental and social costs far outweigh the short-term economic benefits.

Furthermore, the project lacks clear commitments to long-term, meaningful employment opportunities for Indigenous Peoples in the area. A more thorough investigation is necessary to fully assess the potential impacts and ensure the well-being of both present and future generations.

Reading between comments on this potential project, I look to have more knowledge on the length of the mine. Also, what are the key goals of supporting the land and what resources that are needed to sustain it? As we (collectives) have discussed in these comments, it is concerning to the communities surrounding this potential mine.

As well as the migration of animals, with our already declining population of the George River Caribou Herd. I would hope for a better understanding, with thorough reviews in all surrounding communities! With visits in which are well planned.
