Good morning,
Newfoundland doesn’t need offshore wind turbines for its own domestic use. Newfoundland needs to ban proponents from desecrating our oceans with experimental offshore wind turbines.
I class them as experimental because you and the proponents have no idea how the turbines will react in our harsh environment. Will they stand up to a hurricane? Will they stand up to an average winter storm? Will they stand up to an average wind storm? Will they stand up to 100 year storm? Will they stand up to being inundated constantly with salt water and salt water spray? Nantucket has experienced turbine blade failure in the middle of the summer season, how many blades will fail in our environment?
The experimental wind turbines need to be studied as the experiment they are. Place a few in the ocean and study them. See how they react to our harsh environment. If the turbines pass this test then move on to the next phase of the experiment. If they fail this test? Then the experiment has saved our province from an environmental disaster.
You and the proponents are assuming the turbines aren’t experimental, this is your Achilles heel, your hubris is showing. Mother Nature will educate you at the provinces expense. Sadly, you and the proponents are insulated from the fall out of your hubris.
I have no faith in the government and the proponents grand experiment. The green slush fund, hopefully will disappear before this proposed grand experiment gets off the ground.
