January 28th, 2025Subject: Support for Canada Nickel’s Crawford Nickel Project
Dear Impact Assessment Agency of Canada,
On behalf of the Town of Iroquois Falls, I am writing to express my strong support for Canada Nickel Company’s submission of the Impact Statement for the Crawford Project. This initiative presents a significant opportunity for our community, creating jobs, boosting economic activity, and aligning with our town’s long-term vision for sustainable growth.
With a rich industrial history, Iroquois Falls is well-positioned to benefit from this project through employment opportunities in mining and related sectors, such as logistics, construction, and trades. Additionally, the economic activity generated by the Crawford Nickel Project will help attract new investment and create opportunities for our local businesses.
Above long-term economic benefits, Canada Nickel has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability, aligns with Iroquois Falls’ principle of environmental responsibility. Canada Nickel is pioneering innovative technologies, such as its In-Process Tailings (IPT) Carbonation, which utilizes mine tailings to actively capture and store CO², significantly reducing the Project's carbon footprint. This approach aligns with global efforts to combat climate change while positioning the region as a leader in sustainable resource development. Additionally, the company is striving for a net-zero carbon operation by incorporating renewable energy sources, electric mining equipment, and efficient water management practices. Supporting the Crawford Nickel Project would not only create local jobs and infrastructure improvements but also demonstrate our community’s role in advancing environmentally responsible mining, ensuring long-term prosperity without compromising ecological integrity.
As part of our commitment to ensuring that Iroquois Falls is well-represented in this process, our Town has representatives actively participating in both the Socioeconomic and Environmental Committees, including myself and Mayor Delaurier, for the Crawford Nickel Project. These committees have provided direct input into shaping the Impact Statement, ensuring that local perspectives are considered. Additionally, site visits to their operations have taken place, and I am pleased with the transparency and partnership Canada Nickel has demonstrated thus far. Their willingness to engage in open dialogue and address community concerns is a testament to their responsible approach to development.
Given these numerous benefits, I urge the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada to approve the Impact Statement submission and allow this project to move forward. The Crawford Nickel Project represents a crucial opportunity for the future of Iroquois Falls.
Sincerely,
Brian Finner
