Municipal Comments and Concerns

The Township of Black River-Matheson cautiously supports this project. The past mining history in Northern Ontario has seen the vast majority of the benefits accruing to the larger centres. In our case, that would be to the City of Timmins.
The minerals that are being mined will provide great benefits to the mining company and the Province of Ontario. History has shown that little if any benefits accrued to the smaller communities. This can range from using local businesses to encouraging contractors to establish their new businesses in such communities.
There is also an issue of employment. Many of those who have been trained as miners are located in the smaller towns surrounding this project, including Bsalck River-Matheson. We would prefer to see new miners establish themselves in our community as a way to spread the efforts among the smaller communities.
