Good day,
My name is Hunter Tremblay and our family owns and operates Big Water Campground Inc which is in close proximity to the Crawford Project.
I just recently attended an online info session with regards to Canada Nickel Company and the Crawford Project hosted by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada where I was encouraged to submit a comment here online to express any concerns we may have as individual(s) and/or employer.
Big Water Campground background info:
Big Water Campground is situated on Big Water Lake located on HWY 655.
Big Water Campground was originally built and operated by Kidd Creek (Mine Operation just north of Big Water Lake) intended for its employees to enjoy. However, in 2004 the Campground and property went to market and our family was fortunate enough to purchase it.
When first purchased in 2004 the campground occupied approximately 60 camp sites, mainly occupied by employees of Kidd Creek Mine Site. Fast forward to today, as a family we were able to expand and grow to over 350 camp sites which are occupied from all members of our Timmins community. On any given weekend our campground could be host to over 1000 campers / guests.
We are %95 seasonal campsites as opposed to transient. Currently our campground is a seasonal business which opens May 15 to Oct 15.
Concerns:
As the owner and operator of the campground along with my brother, Forrest Tremblay, we have the duty to look out for not only the interests of our own families (who also reside at Big Water Lake) but also our business as well as our community members (campers).
During the online info session, the following concerns caught my attention but are not limited to:
- Potential changes to air and water quality.
- Potential noise/rumblings as a result of the blasting operations.
It goes without saying that our campers are mainly here to escape both of these concerns they are accustom to experiencing in the City, and enjoy relaxing in peace and quiet, breathing fresh air & watching wildlife here at our Campground.
I know these are the early stages in the process, however, I feel obligated to express our concerns as we are as far as I can tell the closest community potentially being affected by this project.
We look forward to collaborating and educating ourselves further as the process evolves.
Regards,
Hunter Tremblay
