YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport - Construction of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) station

This project involves the construction of the underground station of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) at YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport. The activities to be carried as part of the project include civil excavation work, support and sealing of the excavated sections, and the construction of concrete and steel structures. Building activities include the construction of platforms, mechanical rooms, public areas and any other spaces required to make the station operational. The footprint of the station is an existing built environment.

Notice of determination

July 30, 2021 - Aéroports de Montréal and Transport Canada have determined that the project to build the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) station is not likely to cause significant negative effects on the environment by applying the mitigation measures provided for in the project.

This determination was based on the following factors:

  • impact on rights of indigenous peoples;
  • indigeneous knowledge; 
  • community knowledge; 
  • comments received from the public; and 
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

The mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are essentially based on the following components of the physical environment: 

  • air quality; 
  • groundwater and surface water quality;
  • soil quality;
  • soundscape.

Therefore, Aéroports de Montréal and Transport Canada may carry out the project and exercise their powers to enable the project to be carried out.
