I was absolutely gobsmacked when I heard that a NEW highway was being considered to plow through one of Ontario's major food producing greenlands. You don't pave over farmers' fields and come out ahead! Not only do you remove food production for the region, it is proposed to cross over or destroy many sensitive waterways. It was firmly rejected as unnecessary by the area's regional and municipal councils.

The only positive I can think of for this is the enrichment of developers and builders of highways, and that is not part of ANY long term strategy!
