Environmentally, I know first hand how detrimental oil and gas extraction and distribution are to the water and earth. Leaks and spills happen to every peice of infrastructure and are impossible to contain in the ocean. Marine life will suffer, for much longer than 30 years. I adamantly believe in prioritizing people over profit, and this development is all about profit. Stop colluding with oil and gas and focus on what needs to be done for the future of ALL Canadians, invest in green energy solutions! Fossil fuel does not need to own our lives and livelihoods!   Govern for the PEOPLE, not the PROFIT off exploiting the people, land, and waters. Leave the oil in the ground! • The oil and gas industry is THE economic base for the NL economy. Make no mistake about it. The rejection of this project will spell the beginning of the end of the NL economy. And for what? To make the rest of Canada feel good about themselves. To serve some political agenda? You have to be naive to think that halting this project will have any effect on global oil demand. The world uses almost 100 million bbls of oil per day. Even at thehigh-range estimates, Bay du Nord's reserves represent about 10-12 days of global consumption. If that oil is not provided from here, rest assured it will come from somewhere else and I am pretty confident that it will not be developed as responsibly as Equinor plans to do. As we transition to emission-free energy, we should be embracing companies like Equinor, welcoming their investment and reinvesting the taxes and royalties from that into renewable energy projects. • In the face of the Sixth Assessment Report of the IPCC, as well as all our accumulated knowledge about the climate crises, approval of the Bay du Nord Project through an Environmental Assessment process would be profoundly cynical. New investment in fossil fuel is not compatible with a liveable future. New oil extraction and infrastructure projects displace the potential for investments in renewable energy - an approach to energy that will not only help Canada meet our climate committments, but also more job dense and more resilient to geo-political threats. Beyond the obvious environmental impacts, the dependence of Canada's economy on fossil fuel extraction is making us increasingly vulnerable. Do not dig us deeper into that hole with approval of this project.

I also refer to The International Energy Agency  "(IEA) has recently concluded that there can be no new oil, gas or coal development if the world is to reach net zero emissions by 2050.Carbon emissions from the full production of currently operating oil and gas fields and coal mines across the world will lead to global temperature rise beyond 1.5°C and make it impossible to meet global obligations under the Paris Agreement." We must decolonialise our ways, and moving away from extraction of natural ressources is part of that evolution. • Je m'oppose à ce projet et à tout autre projet d'exploration et/ou d'exploitation d'hydrocarbures. C'est une question de survie. Comme nous le rappelle le GIEC, il est minuit moins une et nous devons impérativement réduire nos émissions de GES. Pour ce faire, nous devons réduire notre consommation d'hydrocarbure pas l'augmenter! Le projet d'exploitation de Bay du Nord inciterait à poursuivre la consommation globale pour plusieurs décennies. C'est un non-sens!!! Le Canada émet déjà plus de GES qu'il le devrait et est en voie de rater ses cibles. Il est grand temps d'agir de façon raisonnable et équitable. Il est urgent, essentiel et prioritaire de diminuer annuellement jusqu'en 2050, notre production et utilisation de produits pétroliers afin de réduire annuellement nos émissions de gaz de serre de 7,5%. Essentiel aussi de protéger la faune aquarique et sa croissance pour maitenir notre source alimentaire.
