Prosperity Gold-Copper Mine Project – Availability of $200,000 in Participant Funding
OTTAWA, November 4, 2008 - The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) is making available $200,000 under its Participant Funding Program to assist groups and individuals to participate in the environmental review for the proposed Prosperity Gold-Copper Mine project in south central British Columbia.
This funding is being made available to help successful applicants review and comment on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that will be prepared by the proponent. The funding may also be used to prepare for and participate in the public hearings that will be announced at a later date.
Funding applications received by the Agency by December 8, 2008 will be considered. A Funding Review Committee, independent of the review process, will consider all applications and make recommendations on the allocation of funds.
Information on the funding program, the proposed project and on the environmental assessment process is available on the Agency Web site.
Taseko Mines Ltd. proposes the development of a high volume open pit gold-copper mine to be located 125 km southwest of Williams Lake, B.C. In addition to the mine and associated tailings and waste rock areas, the project includes an onsite mill, an approximately 125 km long power transmission line corridor and an access road.
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency administers the federal environmental assessment process, which identifies the environmental effects of proposed projects and measures to address those effects, in support of sustainable development.
