Latvia - Riga - Construction of a Military Dining Facility (DFAC)

June 9, 2026 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. The project involves the construction of a 2,900 m² permanent Dining Facility (DFAC) with 700 seats to accomodate approximately 27 percent (~ 300 personnel) of the military base's multinational population due to inadequate space and outdated facilities. The project will occur on developed, and serviced land. The facility will meet all hygiene, fire safety, and food storage regulations and minimize environmental impact in line with Latvian Environmental Protection Law and Canadian environmental guidelines.
