The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) proposes the construction of a new Aircraft Maintenance Hangar at 14 Wing Greenwood as part of the Canadian Multi Mission Aircraft (CMMA) program. The facility will include a six bay aircraft maintenance hangar with two second line bays, and four first line bays. Supporting infrastructure will include workshops, storage areas, administrative offices, personnel parking, and airfield aprons connecting the hangar to aircraft movement areas.

Project activities will include site preparation, excavation, building construction, installation of related utilities and infrastructure, soil and groundwater management, and landscaping. Work will be completed on DND property, within the Airfield Operations Zone (AOZ). Several buildings within the potential construction footprint may require demolition. Two of the buildings (Hangar 9 and Hangar 10) are Recognized Federal Heritage Buildings, and their potential demolition is included within the scope of this assessment. Demolition activities will include hazardous materials abatement, structural removal, and site reinstatement. The exact location of the new CMMA Aircraft Maintenance Hangar is currently under options analysis, and the final siting decision will be confirmed at a later stage.

One siting option being assessed would require the relocation of the Union Church Cemetery, located east of Hangar 9. If this option proceeds, cemetery relocation would occur prior to demolition and construction activities.

Additional opportunities exist to provide input to the feasibility study for the potential Union Church Cemetery relocation. Please follow the link for the Public Notice which provides additional information on the feasibility study and contact information if you have ancestors interred at the cemetery.
