Removal of Antennas 602 and 603, Newport Corner Naval Radio Station - CFB Halifax
March 23, 2026 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project
The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project. The Department of National Defence is proposing to remove Antennas 602 and 603 and associated elements at Newport Corner Naval Radio Station, Newport Corner, Nova Scotia. Antenna 602 is a 149-meter guyed tower with 6 guy levels and 9 anchors. Antenna 603 is a 137-meter guyed tower with 3 guy levels and 9 anchors. Elements to be removed include tower sections, tower base and insulator (oil filled), structural guy wires, antenna guy wires, guy wires insulators (oil filled), obstruction lights, cables and accessories. Elements to remain include equipment building at tower base, tower central foundation, guy anchors foundation and above ground elements, grounding cables at tower base and guy wires anchors. Removal of Antenna 603 is expected to take place in Summer 2026, with Antenna 602 anticipated to follow at a later date.
