March 5, 2026 – Environment and Climate Change Canada must determine whether the proposed Automated Weather Station at 250 Allan Brooks Way, Vernon, BC is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Environment and Climate Change Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) plans to install a new Automatic Weather Station (AWS) at 250 Allan Brooks Way, Vernon BC, property of ECCC. The station will be installed in a compound of 30 m by 30 m, located in an unused field 100 m to the SW of Allan Brooks Nature Center Building. 

The weather station will have concrete foundation bases to support the instruments and equipment. The depth of the concrete base is between 6 feet to 9 feet. Trenches will be used to run the power and signals cables between the bases and communication kiosk.
