Rogers communication tower - Vanterm – Public comments invited

February 19, 2025 – As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed Rogers communication tower - Vanterm, located at the parking lot directly east of the Clarke Drive overpass, Vancouver, B.C. are likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Written comments to be received by March 20, 2025.

To help inform this determination and a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.  For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website. In addition, your contact information may be shared with third parties, e.g., the tenant, other relevant agencies, to help respond to your questions and inform possible mitigations.

The proposed project

To reduce impacts to existing port operations, GCT Canada Limited Partnership (the Applicant) is proposing to relocate existing Rogers communication equipment from the maintenance building rooftop, that is located within their terminal, to a new 35 metre communications tower that would be located in the parking lot adjacent to the east of the Clark Drive overpass. The project would require excavation to a minimum depth of 3 metres to install the concrete foundation of the tower and electrical conduit and an additional concrete pad for a communications kiosk. Followed by the installation of the steel monopole tower and 28 metres of security fencing with a locked gate that would surround the tower compound area. The approximate footprint of the tower is 1.2 metres in diameter and the approximate footprint of the concrete foundation is 25 square metres.

Construction would be conducted during regular hours and the overall duration of the project is approximately 6 months.
