Sawmill demolition - Acorn mill
Notice of Determination
Vancouver, B.C. – October 28, 2025 – The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has determined that the proposed Sawmill demolition – Acorn Mill located at 9355 Alaska Way, Delta BC not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects
The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
- Impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples
- Indigenous knowledge
- Technically and economically feasible mitigation measures
Best efforts were made to consult with the Tsleil-Waututh, Tsawwassen, Kwikwetlem, and Kwantlen First Nations. The concerns, comments or themes raised were:
- Potential impact to mature trees
- Potential for clearing of bird nests during nesting season
- Rare or sensitive wildlife
The project was posted to the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry on September 16, 2025 for public comment. No relevant comments were submitted.
The City of Delta was consulted. The comments raised were:
- The need for a demolition permit
- Requests for more information about utility disconnects
Mitigation measures and/or permit conditions taken into account in making the determination include:
- The requirement to conduct a follow-up Barn Owl survey
- The requirement to have in place a spill prevention, containment, and clean-up plan
- The requirement to carry out the project in accordance with a Construction Environmental Management Plan
- The requirement to install and maintain protection fencing around Streambank Lupine critical habitat
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
